A black and white hand points at a torn piece of paper that reads Dear writers, we hope you are doing well! We are now accepting submissions for our themed issue, wild things. The deadline is November 15. Submit through the link in our bio. With love, Iron Horse Literary Review.

Dear writers and readers of IHLR, we are glad to announce that the gate is now open to submit to our 29.2 Themed Issue: WILD THINGS. From today, October 15 through 11:59 p.m. Central Time on November 15, use our Submittable link to send us your poems, stories, and essays that center around wild things!

We love when writers interpret our themes broadly. Send us your work about animals, trees, herbs, wilderness, rivers, floods, droughts, tornadoes, the environment, humans in the wild, humans gone wild, or anything else you could call untamed!

Want more inspiration? What does it mean to have control and then lose it? Are boundaries and borders necessary? You tell us! Send us your stories that take us out of civilization, that make us forget what “tame” means. Work that is chaotic, feral, or uninhibited. Set us down in the frontier, introduce us to the natural world, leave us in the wilderness. Tell us about the most unmanageable dream you ever had, about the animal you domesticated, about the way someone’s hair looks when they go cliff-diving. Sing the praises of The Troggs’s Wild Thing or ponder the cultural significance of Nick Cannon’s Wild ‘n Out. Consider Max and the rumpus he starts, Neve Campbell and Denise Richards, Medusa and Medea, Philadelphia’s Washington Wild Things baseball team. Let your stories be savage. Flirt with the tangential: if not wild itself, maybe wild-shaped instead. After all, what do you do with a story that won’t be tamed? We want to know, and we want to read it in your words.

We'll read flash stories and essays of up to 1,000 words and full-length stories and essays of up to 5,000 words, or approximately 17 pages. For poetry, please send us 3 to 5 poems in a single submission. Poems should generally be under 3 pages in length each.

We will also have a free submit day starting at 8 a.m. Central Time on November 1. Check our social media or back here on our website for the Submittable link, which will be open only to the first 25 writers who could not otherwise afford to submit their work to us.

We can't wait to read your work! Remember to find more details via our Submittable link. Have fun and go WILD!
